Freycinet to Barnbougle

Gosh, it's too bad the scenery is so lousy in Tasmania.

From the Tasman Peninsula, we headed north along the coast to yet another stunning peninsula and accompanying national park: Freycinet. Here, the view from our campsite at Richardson Beach, looking toward Coles Bay:

The walk up to the Wineglass Bay lookout was also more than worth the huff and puff!

Though we decided not to hike down to the beach at Wineglass, in favor of leaving enough time to take the long (coastal) route north. This was also well worth it, as it left us time to stop at St Columba Falls, the highest in Tassie.

And then, finally, make our way to Barnbougle Dunes, where my parents were scheduled to play some golf at the world-class course there. I wouldn't know about the golf, but I can confirm that the beauty of the setting is indeed world-class.

I especially loved the resident black swans that could usually be found either in the stream near the bridge to my parent's hotel, or in the adjacent field, mingling among the cows.

Also recommended: the drive from Bridport to Launceston via Scottsdale, which curves over a mountain pass where we saw these adorable echidnas both times we drove the road. They were totally unconcerned with people and would walk right over your foot if you didn't get out of the way.
