Wanaka

Continuing south from Omarama through yet another rainy, chilly New Zealand morning...

...we arrived in the lakeside town of Wanaka, where the afternoon cleared into a brilliant day and sent us out for another hike, this one to Diamond Lake...

And a viewpoint over Lake Wanaka.

Too bad the scenery sucks here, huh?

The next day, we headed deeper into Matukituki Valley...

...to the Rob Roy Valley Track and, ultimately, the Rob Roy glacier. A great reward for an uphill slog!

Not to mention the waterfalls cascading down from the glacier. It was pretty magical.

Then on the way back to town we were stuck in some really slow traffic for at least 15 minutes. Though I'm sure all those sheep would be insulted at that description, since they were obviously running as fast as they could down the road, and when they finally moved off into the grass, were huffing and puffing alarmingly.
